Deadline for Token Tax Payment Extended to January 15 in Islamabad

The Excise and Taxation Department in Islamabad has extended the deadline for paying vehicle token taxes, moving it from December 31 to January 15. This extension gives vehicle owners additional time to fulfill their tax obligations.

The department had initially planned to take strict action against defaulters starting January 1, including canceling vehicle registrations and imposing fines. However, under the revised order, owners who fail to pay the token tax by the new deadline will face severe penalties, including the cancellation of their vehicle registration and a 200% fine for reinstatement.

The Excise and Taxation Department in Islamabad has extended the deadline for paying vehicle token taxes, moving it from December 31 to January 15. This extension provides vehicle owners with additional time to comply with tax regulations.

The department had initially planned to take strict action against defaulters starting January 1, which included canceling vehicle registrations and imposing fines. However, with the revised order, owners who fail to pay the token tax by the new deadline will face severe penalties, including the cancellation of their vehicle registration and a 200% fine for reinstatement.

To facilitate timely payments, the department has issued a stern warning to defaulters, urging them to settle their dues immediately. Vehicle owners with smart cards can conveniently pay their token tax through the Islamabad City App. Additionally, counters at the Islamabad Excise and Taxation Department will remain open until 8 PM daily to assist citizens.

A software-based system is being used to identify defaulters. Those who fail to comply by the January 15 deadline will face automatic cancellation of their vehicle registration. They will then be required to pay a significant penalty to reinstate their registration.

According to an official from the department, the decision to implement stringent measures is due to the increasing number of defaulters over time. Random vehicle inspections are being conducted to ensure compliance, and normal penalties are being imposed on violators. However, the official noted that some defaulters continue to evade payment despite being penalized during previous checks.

In numerous cases, vehicle owners have failed to pay their token tax for several years, which has further complicated the situation. Bilal Azam Khan, Director of Excise and Taxation, has urged all vehicle owners to promptly clear their dues to avoid legal consequences.
