Pakistan’s Test International Injured In President’s Trophy Match

Test pacer Mir Hamza sustained an elbow injury while fielding during the President’s Trophy Grade One Cricket Tournament, raising further concerns about the playing conditions at the HPC Oval Ground.
The 32-year-old fast bowler, Mir Hamza, was playing for Ghani Glass in their match against Eshaal Associates when the incident occurred on Day 2. While attempting to take a catch in the outfield, Hamza landed awkwardly, injuring his left elbow and leaving the field in visible pain. Kamran Akmal, the former Test wicketkeeper and current coach of Ghani Glass, called the injury a tragic result of poor field conditions.
“There’s no grass on the outfield, and players are diving on bare dirt. Injuries like this are inevitable,” Akmal remarked.
Hamza’s injury follows recent criticism from former Pakistan cricketer Mohammad Hafeez, now coaching Sui Southern Gas, who publicly condemned the arrangements for the President’s Cup matches at the HPC Oval Ground. Hafeez urged the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to prioritize player safety and improve the venue’s facilities.
Despite being an important platform for domestic players, the tournament’s substandard infrastructure has sparked ongoing concerns. Hamza’s injury has only intensified calls for immediate action to improve conditions for players.
Mir Hamza’s injury is especially concerning for Karachi Kings, who selected him in the ‘Silver’ category during the PSL 2025 Draft. The franchise will closely monitor his recovery as they prepare for the tournament. A seasoned campaigner, Hamza was expected to play a crucial role in strengthening the Kings’ bowling attack.
