Electricity Consumers Likely to Be Allowed More Installments on Heavy Bills

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has suggested permitting electricity consumers to pay their bills in multiple installments over the course of the year, replacing the current system that allows only one installment annually.
This proposal is part of the amendments to the Consumer Service Manual aimed at aligning the revenue requirements of distribution companies (DISCOs).
Under the proposed changes, electricity consumers who pay their first installment on time will not incur any markup. However, DISCOs will be permitted to impose a 14 percent markup on subsequent installments.
NEPRA has invited feedback from the public and stakeholders on these amendments within a seven-day period. The proposed changes aim to alleviate the financial burden on consumers while ensuring that DISCOs achieve their revenue targets.
Notably, the Consumer Service Manual was last updated by NEPRA in June 2024.
