Karachi Police Issues New Safety Guidelines for Schools and Seminaries

Rising Child Abduction Cases in Karachi Prompt New Safety Guidelines
Amid a surge in child abduction cases in Karachi, police have introduced new safety measures to enhance the protection of children attending schools and seminaries.
Safety Guidelines for Schools and Parents
The police advisory emphasizes that children should only leave schools or seminaries with their parents or legal guardians. Parents are strongly urged to avoid sending children alone and to ensure they are accompanied during travel to and from educational institutions.
Recent Abduction Attempt in Korangi
A recent incident in Korangi’s Bhitai Colony underlined the need for these measures. An attempted abduction of a young girl was thwarted when the child and a woman accompanying her raised the alarm, forcing the kidnappers to flee.
The incident occurred in Sector D and was captured on CCTV. The footage shows a woman walking with the girl when two men on a motorcycle approach. One dismounts and attempts to grab the child, but she resists and screams, prompting the woman to call for help. The suspects fled after failing in their attempt.
According to reports, the suspect threatened to harm the girl if she did not comply. The Korangi SSP confirmed that an investigation is underway based on the family’s statement, and efforts are being made to identify and arrest the culprits.
Unresolved Cases Highlight Law Enforcement Challenges
This incident has reignited concerns over law enforcement’s ability to address child abductions, particularly as several cases remain unsolved.
- Case of Sarim: A minor, Sarim, was kidnapped and later found dead after going missing from his apartment complex in New Karachi. Police have yet to identify the perpetrator.
- Garden West Disappearances: Two young boys, Aaliyan (5) and Ali (6), were abducted in Garden West. CCTV footage captured a man and woman on a motorcycle with the children, who appeared semi-conscious. Despite the evidence, authorities have neither located the children nor apprehended the suspects.
Community Concerns and Urgent Call for Action
The rising number of unsolved cases has left parents and the broader community deeply concerned about children’s safety in Karachi. Law enforcement agencies are under mounting pressure to improve their response and implement effective measures to prevent further incidents.
